Living in transitional sober living homes bridges the gap between both residential inpatient or outpatient treatment and traditional sober living homes. Recovery from a life of drugs or alcohol use does not end at graduation from a treatment center. Transitional sober living and the home environment offers support during the crucial step between treatment and returning to one’s job, home and family.

Transitional sober living is a community environment where residents assist one another and live in a democratic culture of sobriety. They have access to community resources and reside in a structured environment where recovery is enthusiastically stimulated and promoted. This environment must be properly maintained, be orderly, safe, clean, and alcohol/drug free. A quality transitional sober living home will promote a sense of belonging and ownership among the community.

University research (http://condor.depaul.edu/~ljason/oxford/) indicates that individuals who choose to reside in a supportive environment as a part of their overall recovery program increases the alcoholic/addicts chance for continued sobriety. OC’s Aloha House will provide this environment. Sober home environments are essential for those in recovery because they provide secure and well traveled paths for their transition back to conventional living and mainstream society.

In addition to 12 Step support meetings, transitional sober living homes offer ongoing support through established alumni groups and attendance at Family Nights and weekly House Meetings.
